چکیده

There are a number of observations which suggest that acetylcholine exerts an ex citatory influence over the medullary vasomotor center. Dhawan et al. (1) reported that both acetylcholine and carbachol produce a pressor response on intracerebroventri cular (i.c.v.) administration in dogs and this pressor response is blocked by atropine. Sinha et al. (2) observed that hemicholinium, which blocks the synthesis of acetylcholine depresses the responsiveness of vasomotor center on i.c.v. administration as well as after topical application to the floor of the fourth ventricle. Release of acetylcholine by tyra mine has been suggested to be involved in the pressor response produced by i.c.v. admi nistration of tyramine (1). Pfeiffer et al. (3) studied several compounds to find out longer acting parasympatho mimetic agents or precursors of acetylcholine which might affect the central nervous system. They reported parasympathomimetic and central effects of 2-dimethyl amino ethanol (deanol) and suggested that it owes the actions to its conversion to acetylcholine. We, therefore, thought it worthwhile to study the central vasomotor effects of deanol and to investigate if these effects are due to its conversion into acetylcholine.

Metabolism of labeled aminoethanol, glycine, and arginine in the chick.

Wixom et al. (1) reported that supplementation of the diet with aminoethanol equivalent to 1.5% glycine increased the grouTth of chicks on a glycine-deficient 35% casein diet to the same extent as did supplementation with glycine. Such a magnitude of growth response implies an efficient conversion of aminoethanol to glycine. However, with the use of a 20 $& casein ration we were unable to obtai...

Is 2-dimethylaminoethanol (deanol) indeed a precursor of brain acetylcholine? A gas chromatographic evaluation.

Acute administration of deanol-p-acetamidobenzoate (Deaner; deanol) has been reported to elevate brain choline (CH) and acetylcholine (ACh) levels. We have developed a specific and sensitive gas chromatographic assay to measure deanol levels in tissue and have applied this assay to our studies of the effect of acute deanol administration on deanol, ACh and Ch levels in rodent brains. Details of...

Pnm-19: The Effect of Black Cohosh (CimicifugaRacemosa) on Vasomotor Symptoms in Postmenopausal Women: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Background: Hot flash is considered to be an early and common symptom of menopause. This symptom can interfere with the social and personal life of women; therefore, it demands a secure and effective intervention. Therefore, the present study aimed to determine the impact of black cohosh (Cimicifugaracemosa or actaearacemosa) on vasomotor symptoms in postmenopausal women. Materials and Methods:...

Hydrogen sulfide in the rostral ventrolateral medulla inhibits sympathetic vasomotor tone through ATP-sensitive K+ channels.

Hydrogen sulfide (H(2)S) acts as an endogenous gaseous transmitter in the central nervous system and plays important roles in regulating cardiovascular function. The rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM) is a putative critical central region in the control of sympathetic vasomotor tone and plays an important role in the baroreflex by integrating the inputs from a variety of visceral and somatic ...
